The U.S. has granted Iraq a 120-day waiver to avoid penalties for buying natural gas and electricity from Iran, as the Biden administration takes a more lenient stance than the Trump administration.
This is the first official test of President Joe Biden's diplomacy with Iraq over Iran, following the Trump administration's withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal and subsequent resumption of sanctions, which put Baghdad in the crosshairs since it relies on Iran for energy supplies.
