Karbala's school children brave abysmal school conditions.
A quarter century of unremitting wars have transformed Iraq's educational system into a shadow of its former self. The downward spiral has extinguished the hopes momentarily felt at start of America's invasion, for brighter and better futures for the country's youth. The image below offers a small snapshot of the dismal reality that children encounter daily. Overcrowding, underfunding, inadequate facilities and teaching resources; are but a few problems plaguing education in Iraq. Cash flowing into the city of Karbala is funnelled into Iraq's religious tourism. Yet schools remain in dire need of an overhaul – a cosmetic makeover – to rehabilitate the battered infrastructure.
Iraq must be returned to Iraqis !!
